About the DAISY Foundation

The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who passed away at the age of 33 from complications to Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura (ITP), an auto-immune disease. DAISY, is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. During Pat’s 8-week hospitalization, his family was awestruck by the care and compassion of his nurses, which was provided not only to Pat, but to everyone in his family as well. They then created the DAISY Foundation in Pat’s memory, with the goal of recognizing extraordinary nurses who make an enormous difference in the lives of so many people through the superhuman work they do every day.
